If you are a fan of golf video games, you might have heard of the Golf Club Series which is one of the best golf simulations. The Golf Club series is now undertaken by the game development company 2K sports and they have created a new golf game titled PGA Tour 2K21.
The game is readily available in Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and even Nintendo Switch. You can also play this game if you have a Google Stadia subscription.
Golf games in the past have not been accessible. The difficulty level was pretty high and the games had a pretty simulated feel. PGA Tour 2K21 tries to take inspiration from other sports simulations such as NBA 2K and has made the game easier to play.
There are traditional guides that help to make it easier for new players. A wider audience can definitely play the game that has recently got their best driver for beginners.
There are various difficulty settings in the game. The medium difficulty setting is known as “Pro-Am” and this is the best setting to play the game. It is accessible but it also requires skill and focuses. And if you don’t have any idea about golf, it can be a learning curve as well. In the Pro-Am settings, you get a flight path indicator and a distance control meter that helps you to plan your shots. There is still the question of timing and making everything correct. So, you need to have a focus to play this game in a better way. You can definitely adjust things to your preference in the settings menu and make the game easier or harder, depending on your skill level. The gameplay is smooth enough, shots feel very satisfying and there are no lags so that makes it pretty great.
One thing that is a bit of a letdown is the graphics of the PGA 2K21 game. It’s just not up to the bar. The player models are good and the grounds look alright but the lighting is messed up. The crowd looks pretty bad as well. The game doesn’t look like it is from this generation. However, it doesn’t look that bad. And if you are playing it in the PC, you can increase the graphics to ultra settings and play at 4K which looks impressive.
My Career Mode
The highlight of the PGA Tour 2K21 is it’s “My Career” mode. The new career mode has a lot of features. You can play the mode for around 20 hours and there are a lot of tournaments to play with both licensed and fictional ones. The progression system in the career mode is based on XP (Experience Point) and XP can be earned by winning games and completing challenges. The XP levels up your character’s overall ratings. Through the course of the campaign, you can take a level 1 amateur and build him to a level 21 professional.
There is a subplot inside the career mode called the ‘Rival System’ which pits you against 12 best pro golfers as you progress. This is pretty much how you level up and the 12 pro golfers are basically boss fights. But this is a welcome addition and can feel pretty legitimate sometimes. You cannot choose your rival though, you are assigned one automatically. It feels good to beat a pro golfer all your career and call it a day when you retire.
Despite all the shortcomings, the PGA Tour 2K21 is the best golf game out there. It is very enjoyable with varied difficulty settings and an impressive array of modes and features. You can play this game for hours and not get bored. There are many ways to play as well.
You can play an exhibition match, take a part in a single tournament or play the career mode with your created golfer. Speaking of the created golfer, you can create both male and female golfers (but can only play as male in the career mode).
There are also course creation options and the online community is pretty large. So, you can download players, tournaments, and courses created by other players as well.
To conclude, we can say that PGA Tour 2K21 is one of the best golf simulators out there. It has got very great gameplay and a lot of settings to tweak. It does lack a bit in the graphics department (if you are not playing in 4K) but it still looks great on a good PC, Xbox One X, and PS4 pro so, you can definitely play it.
