I tend to disagree. Open Source is flying sky high while Windows sticks to it's old habit of asking money for things that can be done free. For example Microsoft Office. Open Office does the same and more e.g. one can create a PDF-file with one click of your mouse in OO Writer. I never succeeded to do the same with a MS application.

The value of the Linux Operating System compared to Windows Vista is of course personal, but the former has higher potentials in my opinion and probably in the opinion of many more professionals.

Remember too that under Mac OSX lies Unix. What lies under Windows? Yes DOS... Tell me please what's better.
