On the 10th of January Microsoft released a new beta build of there Real Time Communications Platform.
The name changed to Office Communications Server 2007. So maybe this will be the new name.

I just starting installing it and there are some nice new features.

New Features in This Release:
Beta 3 includes many improvements over Beta 2 and introduces additions to the Microsoft Unified Communications infrastructure. With the release of Beta 3, you will have access to the following components:

· Introducing Voice!  Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 Beta 3 now offers Enterprise Voice, the IP telephony component of the Unified Communications solution.

· Expanded Presence Offerings!  More granular presence options debut in Beta 3, along with the transitioning of presence from Active to Inactive to Away.

· Communicator Web Access (CWA)!  CWA offers a consistent user experience across desktops (Windows, Solaris, Mac) and web browsers (IE, FireFox, Safari). XML based (AJAX) APIs: availability of Web UI controls to quickly integrate presence and IM capabilities into an existing web portal.

It will not be a public released Beta but here on BUIT.org you will find all the information about all these new features.

see ya,

  1. hi Jeroen,

  2. will Communicator Web Access support audio / video…?

If support, is it one to one (or) one to many video conference….?

  3. Zion,

We are testing it at the moment. So there will be a review here quickly.
One thing I can tell you is that there is no x64 support by default. That’s something I find very odd because the other collaboration products like Exchange and Groove are 64 bit products. I feel Microsoft is missing the chance to make full advantage of the 64 bit feature to make better use of utilization of virtual memory then a 32 bit system.
You can install it on x64 system but then it does run in 32 bit mode. And you are unable to manage the OCS environment form that machine. You need a 32 bit system to do that.
    More to come soon.

    Hi!

I would like to ask you something. I have used Live communication server 2005 for a long period of time, in a test-environment.

Now my work is to add some own development to the system, but i found RTCAPI very difficult (and underdocumented) to write any easy-to-implement feature.

My last hope is, that OCS 2007 adds some kind of scripting possibilities, so its easyer to extend its functionality. So the question: is there any scripting interface int the OCS 2007 beta 3?

Your answer would help me a lot not to start a projekt, that will not lead to anywhere. Thanks!

There will be support for one to many video conferencing.

    @ ricsip
Well i have been playing with the beta 3 and till this moment i do not see any extra or better documented features for RTCAPI. maybe it will come but till this moment it is still the same as LCS 2005.

    @ all
Even the 32 bit enviroment will be there. It’s even so that you cannot manage your OCS 2007 enviroment with a 64 bit machine. I think this this wrong way to go because if one product can benifit from a 64 enviroment it will be OCS, just look at the better virtual memory enhancements of a 64 bit system.
And if you look at other collaboration products like Exchange and Groove Server they are only in 64 bit and thats because like OCS these apps need to handle a lot of streaming data.
But thats just me talking here.
